Cinder was only with us for a couple of days before we placed her
in a wonderful new home.
She came to us as an 18-year-old with heaves. Heaves is rather
like asthma in humans. A horse with heaves has a difficult time
breathing and will often develop a "heave line" on the
abdomen as different muscles build up in an attempt to excel air
from the lungs. Most can no longer eat hay and must have hay cubes
or specially-treated, moist hay.
Cinder's family asked us to take her because they had their own
difficulties with their own allergies and asthma. We were able to
place her with a family that needed a baby-sitter for their yearling
Thoroughbred filly. Cinder turned out to be a patient baby-sitter
and now has a home for life.
