Equine Rescue Center Open House

Eye of the Storm Equine Rescue is having an open house and tack sale on Saturday May 20 from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

Please come visit the horses, browse our huge collection of new and used tack, and see what else our volunteers have cooked up for the day. You'll find excellent prices on everything from blankets to saddles. Plus, you'll be helping to support the upkeep of the rescue horses.

Our address is 65 White Pond Rd. Stow, MA, which is just off Rt. 117 in the Lower Village section of Stow and not far from Erikson's Ice Cream, a NewEngland.com editor's choice for 2006. (Switchboard.com map.)

The Money Thing Again

Time, she does go by! Here it is, bug season again. This has been such an easy winter, but I just realized it's been some time since our last newsletter.

As always, we desperately need money. We have fine tuned our spending and no longer need "stuff," but we do need to continue to feed and bed the "kids." As I write this it is 2:00 am (the best worrying time).

I know it's tough for many of you so soon after tax time, but every little bit helps. Ten dollars buys a bag of grain. Twenty-five dollars buys four bales of hay. Please help us. We still have our 16 permanent resident horses who will have sanctuary for life. Some are very old, some are in pain, most are unplaceable, all are happy, safe, and loved.

Do you perhaps know of a group of kids who would like to raise money for us? Maybe a bake sale! Do you own a store that could put out a donation jar? One beautiful little five year old girl named Elissa gave us her birthday money! The 4-H kids and schools have done fundraisers for us. We depend 100% on help from you. Please help us to continue our work. Thank you all so much for your support.

Other Species, Dog Farts, Arthritis, and Happy Gut Flora

Do you have an older dog with arthritis? Feed him brewers yeast. You will have him up and running within an hour! I’m not exactly sure why, but I believe it has something to do with the B vitamins that are used up in arthritic beings. Brewers yeast is full of the B’s and helps replace those lost. It will also clear up hot spots and other skin issues, as well as eye goop, within a very short time. With healthier skin your dog will be less susceptible to external parasites and fungal crud. The only down side, I guess, is that until his gut flora (which will be having a party) adjusts to this new and wonderful food, your dog might pass gas a bit more than usual for a few days.

Get it at any health food store. It’s very cheap, too! There’s powder you can sprinkle on his food or tablets he will probably eat from your hand. For a little teeny dog, one tablet or a quarter teaspoon of powder twice a day may be enough. For a shepherd size dog, six tablets or two teaspoons of powder twice a day ought to do it. Do you have arthritis? Try it yourself!

Bess Choice

We are getting incredible feedback about our Bess Choice herbal blend for the Cushings horse. Our two Cushings horses are doing so well that I'm not sure they still even have the disease. We have been selling small batches to the public for the last year and it is turning horses' (and one dog's) lives around! I'm still hand mixing it myself and sending each container, with our love, to our clients. We don't yet have the money to mass produce it, but maybe soon. I can only say that after a year of being used out of the circle of Eye of the Storm, I am now convinced that it really works.

Anyone who would like to order it either send a check for $50 plus $10 for shipping to Happy Horse, 65 White Pond Road, Stow, MA 01775. (Click here to print out an order form). Or, call 978-897-8866 and please leave a message. I will not answer a number I don't recognize, so call back. Do not email to order (we're having a problem with email).

Happy spring to you all!

Nina
