Summer Update
Hey
all! With most of this long, hot, buggy summer behind us,
we can hopefully make time to get our newsletters up and running
again. Here is a short, but not necessarily sweet, update:
I hate summer.
Faith,
who is horrendously allergic to bees, has been stung twice.
After the first emergency vet visit, I now keep dexamethazone
on hand and was able to deal with it the second time myself.
I hate sticking needles in my dear horses, but it saved us
$180 and probably Faith’s life.
Gabriel
collicked and spent four days at Tufts. Butterfly is not pregnant,
but has grown up to be very sturdy and quite pretty. Her eyes
are clearing up, but she still can’t see very well.
Tim is not almost completely blind, but handles it well. His
friend Willie goes out with him and shows him around. They
are very good friends. Sun has fattened up into the most beautiful
boy! He is sweet and lovable, kind of moosie (aren’t
all geldings) and he’s gaited! He’s an old man
and probably not safe to ride. He has trouble getting up after
a roll and if we try to back him up, he sits down! Jamie and
Nessa are in their 32nd year and still look like a million
bucks. I’m looking forward to the day that every last
bug is dead!
Yay winter!!
Take a look at our latest photos
of the horses.
Bess' Choice Herbal Blend
I have fine tuned the Cushings
diet and have available an herbal blend called “Bess’
Choice.” Anyone wanting to purchase it can contact us
at storm@equine-rescue.com
or call 978-897-8866.
We’re brand new at the selling game and are still working
on our label and brochure. This blend is a safe, mostly organic
food to nourish the Cushings/insulin resistant horse. It is
safer than drugs and well below the cost of both drugs and
other herbal products on the market. My goal was to find a
natural, affordable way to help people help their horses with
this disease. Stay tuned for future info!
We Need Money!
Please keep in mind that we desperately need your help to
keep this much needed sanctuary and rescue running. It costs
approximately $35,000/year to run Eye of the Storm. All
donations are completely tax deductible as we are
a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization. Thank you so much for
your continued support.
Please see the credit card link on the right to donate via
PayPal, or visit our Help
page for other ways to donate. Thank you!
(It also helps a little bit every time you click to visit
the sponsors on our web
site.)
I'm always happy to talk to people who call Eye of the Storm
for advice about horse care. But it's become a bit of a problem
if people leave messages and I have to call back long-distance.
We really have to focus our limited funds on horse supplies,
not phone calls.
I still want to talk to you, but please, call back if you
don't reach me. Or, if you're willing to make a donation,
I can call you back long-distance. Thanks for understanding!
Hugs and kisses, Nina
